Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest was acknowledged by the Hungarian Government with the University of National Excellence title for the period of 2013-2016.
The management and the Senate of the University decided about the utilization of the subsidy, so that this sum will not be appropriated for the operating costs of the institution, but, insisting on the meaning of the Excellence title, it will serve the raising of the University's excellence.
As part of the decision, the subsidy can not be split up, but it must be spent on the actuation or carrying on of real and substantive, visible programmes instead. The management of the University therefore chose the existing or planned projects that will be supported with an Excellence subsidy by an internal tender.
Applications sent off were discussed by the directorate of the University on the basis of professional aspects, a board of six members rated them by scoring, and after this Rector of the University decided about the list of the applications to be supported. The judgement of the board and the descision of the Rector were unanimous.
Aspects of the valuation and the decision were the priorities regarding the utulization of the subsidy, related to the „higher education institution of National Excellence” certification, published in the approved plan of action:
o internationalization
o integrativity
o social committment
o sustainability
o incubation
o transfer of knowledge and technology
o basic research
Selection from the programmes was not easy because of the richness and quality of the supply. Eventually, programmes will be continued or actuated in five group of themes:
o programmes aiming at the improvement of the quality of education
o programmes aiming at the improvement of creation-research or knowledge transfer activities
o programmes aiming at the recognition of excellence or efficiency of teaching-researching
o programmes improving the visibility and the social reception of results
o programmes developing service supporting excellent operation and building management capacity
Among these there are programmes realising common academic goals as well as programmes concentrating on narrow, professional fields. Their common characteristics is though that all of them are corresponding to more priorities set up in advance.
